Dealing with embassies and legal work have been doing my head in ever since I graduated. I am surprised that I suddenly have to know the comings and goings of various administrations. I have to pretend that I actually know how to deal with banks and other twisted formalities. Just one click of the finger and I am expected to magically understand when one speaks of international bank transfers. I suddenly have to read various legal contracts without the bat of an eye.
I am currently reading Dance Dance Dance by Murakami. I have just read the most profound thing, something that isn't supposed to soothe and yet I find it the most comforting words I've encountered since my graduation (in other words, the most significant reality check I've had in ages) There's a certain part I want to share will you all, anybody who happens to stumble upon my ramblings -
"Everybody has to grow up."
"You're right there. I used to think the years would go by in order, that you get one year older at a time," said Gotanda, pering into my face. "But it's not like that. It happens overnight."
For a while now, nothing has smacked me in the face like those few sentences. Can one learn how to swim out of neccesity when tossed overboard? But then again, it's nice to know that everyone goes through this phase at some point in life, be it sooner or later.
My bubble has popped.
I'm ready to roll.
